Peace and quiet.

A customer in the cafe today made the comment that the holiday makers had returned Looe to its residents. If the quiet that we are currently experiencing is evidence of that then I am personally happy to be included in the community.
I have lived here now for 10 weeks and feel as if we are fully at home. We have been impressed at how friendly the people of the town are and how welcoming they have been and are being to this newcomer. I would like to thank any residents of Looe and further afield in Cornwall who may read my ramblings for receiving us as you have. We do not feel like strangers in a foreign land but as welcome guests into your incredibly beautiful part of the world.
As you may guess by now our experience reminds me of at least one bible principle:
It was embedded into Old Tetsament law that the children of Israel accomodate strangers amongst them and in so doing they would show something of God's character. God created man in His own image and so man should have some of God's qualities in evidence. God accomodates those who are strangers to Him if they will only come into His presence. He makes them comfortable to be in His presence. The children of Israel were to display the hospitable quality of God to the stranger as they cared for them.

There are many lonely people in our community and so part of the Rusty Bucket's ministry is to reach out to the lonely and hurting and offer them peace and solitude.

The cafe was recently commended by a customer for being a haven of rest and a place that they felt that they could relax and reflect on their own issues of life. An old hymn has these words:

There is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God,
a place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of comfort sweet,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where we our Saviour meet,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

There is a place of full release,
Near to the heart of God,
A place where all is joy and peace,
Near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us, who wait before Thee,
Near to the heart of God.

Looe is a place of peace and quiet it is a pleasure living here but there is a more important peace that is worth considering, are you at peace with God?
